The Walkshop- March 08,2022

Placemaking Nepal brought together diverse women to seek their opinions and extract knowledge in a collaborative and creative environment. The aim was to recognise the distinct needs and unique challenges of girls and women in public spaces of Kathmandu.

The event started at Kathmandu Durbar Square with an introduction to Placemaking and Placemaking Nepal. With the group of multi-disciplinary women, we walked around Kathmandu Durbar Square, Indrachowk and Asan market area. Every participant had a unique perspective and experience to share about the spaces. Together, we evaluated the quality of these public spaces using a joyful and interactive tool – the Place Game!

Setting the tone
The "Women in the City" WalkShop started off by giving participants some familiarity about the theme so that they knew what their experience would be like.

Getting into the crux
Participants were then divided into two groups and they set out exploring, observing and critically accessing the quality of public spaces.

Closure
After a quick tea break, we wrapped things up, revisited expectations by giving participants a chance to reflect on the theme of the event, and asked for feedback.
